Es Castell (formerly Villacarlos) is virtually a suburb of Mahon, offering a handful of modest hotels and shops but no beach. On hilly ground, a grid of narrow streets centred on a large square, Placa de S'Esplanada, and winding down to and along the harbour. Some local atmosphere with small bars and tapas restaurants in the back streets. More touristy by the harbour.
Six buses a day to Ciudadela; similar service to local beaches and resorts. As with all public transport in Minorca, it is reliable from June to Sept only; the last bus is usually in the early evening.
